Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy with the addition of one or more scented plant oils to address specific needs. The massage therapist selects oils that are relaxing, energizing, stress-reducing, or balancing, depending on the wanted effect. Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to stress-related conditions or conditions with an emotional component. Aromatherpay can be added onto any massage, just ask your massage therapist.
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle in order to get the most benefit. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. This is one of the most popular massages in our practice, as it compliments the chiropractic care and physical therapy the most.
Prenatal or pregnancy massage is used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. The massage is customized to a woman's individual needs, and our massage therapists are trained in the correct ways of positioning pregnant women so that the massage is both safe and effective. We also have special bolsters shaped for pregnant women. It's even safe and beneficial to recieve a massage after child birth!
Sports massage is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. However, you don't have to be a professional athlete to have one-it's also used by people who are active and work out often, or for those who participate in sports, be it amatuer or weekend warrior! The focus isn't on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance. Dr. Peter Georgiou is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, so he can come up with a treatment plan that incorporates physical therapy, sports massage, and strength training in order to enchance your performance!
Trigger points are tiny knots that develop in a muscle when it is injured or overworked. Commonly a cause of most joint pain, they are known to cause headaches, neck pain, back pain, and many other types of pain. To diffuse a trigger point, pressure is applied for 10 seconds, released, then pressure applied for 10 more seconds in a pumping action while the client breathes deeply. Integrating this within other types of massage flushes the toxins and calms the nerves. Releasing trigger points releases endorphins so the result is elimination of discomfort as well as being energized- remember that endorphins are the body's natural pain reliever. It is common to find great improvement after one treatment, but repeated treatment may be necessary for those with chronic trigger points.
