Tips for Staying Healthy and Active During Quarantine

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of people to practice social distancing and self-isolate. Even though this poses a challenge, it should not stop you from staying healthy and active. Whether you are working from home or are quarantined, maintaining an active lifestyle is key to keeping your mind and body healthy.

Ways to Stay Healthy and Active at Home

Instead of worrying about the countless things you cannot do now, focus on the things you love or might enjoy doing. Here are the things you can do at home to stay productive and fit.

Eat a Balanced Diet.

There is no specific food or supplement that can enhance your immune system and fight off the COVID-19 virus. However, this should not discourage you from eating well-balanced meals during the quarantine.

Since self-isolation can cause you to be less active, pay close attention to the kinds of food you eat while also monitoring food portions. Keep your energy up by consuming a wide variety of foods rich in essential nutrients including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and plant or animal proteins.

Exercise Regularly.

Physical activity is necessary to keep a healthy mind and body. Healthy adults need to strive for at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Healthy kids, on the other hand, should aim for at least one hour of physical activity daily.

Think outside the box and try different aerobic activities indoors. These include dancing to your favorite music or cleaning the house. You can also do this while walking briskly up and down the stairs. If your joints can handle it, jumping jacks are a great idea. Doing an exercise video or using your home cardio machines, if you have them, can also help. Download some strength workout apps to guide you on how to do muscle training and stay fit during this time. If you are stressed, practicing yoga and deep breathing exercises can go a long way.

If possible, do some gardening or lawn work, go out for a bicycle ride, walk your dog, or jog around your neighborhood while keeping the social-distancing rules in mind. To keep up a routine, create a schedule for your exercise, and don’t forget to take regular breaks in between.

Keep Yourself Hydrated.

Water makes up two-thirds of your body weight. It regulates body temperature, acts as a shock absorber in your joints, and plays a vital role in most chemical reactions inside your body. You should make sure that you have enough water to avoid dehydration.

For a refreshing boost to your water, try adding cucumber or slices of lemon. Unsweetened coffee, fresh fruit juice, and tea are also excellent choices to stay hydrated. Are you looking for more ways to stay fit during the quarantine period?
